Family Guy

Lois and Peter Griffin
  • There is constant disrespect between them as well as towards/from their kids.
  • Lois respects the relationship and its boundaries, but Peter is much more liberal and treats the relationship as a joke.

Healthy?
This relationship is not healthy because there are boundaries that are broken between them. The responsibilities of parents should be equally divided and gone about properly in order to raise their children correctly.  Peter does not  do his fair share; therefore,he is a huge reason why this relationship is unhealthy. His relationship with his daughter is also unhealthy because he does not help her raise her self esteem by criticizing Megan for being smart. He treats his dog with more respect than he does to his wife, and looks at his wife only as a sexual object.  He treats Lois as a stereotypical house women by holding her responsible for all the house chores including cooking, caring for Stewie, and cleaning.

Reflected in society?
This type of relationship is reflected in society because there are  men that  do not give women the value that they deserve.  There are also families in which the father figure is more of a negative influence than they are of a support, and overall I believe a mother is better at fulfilling the parental role than a father can.

Perpetuate unhealthy relationship stereotypes?
Yes these negative stereotypes are current in society. The show makes it seem as if a women is the only person responsible for the house work when a man should part-take in it also. This show, shows how fathers lack the ability to have an accurate grip on how to speak to and treat daughters.
